Two days after it was introduced that Kevin Hart would host the 2019 Academy Awards, backlash over a few of his previous feedback prompted him to reply to his critics on Instagram.

Mr. Hart was in bother as a result of a number of of his tweets and feedback — most of them a number of years previous — used the phrase “gay” as an insult or had been in any other case deemed homophobic.

In his response on Thursday, Mr. Hart didn’t apologize. “Guys, I’m almost 40 years old,” he stated in a video. “If you don’t believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don’t know what to tell you. If you want to hold people in a position where they always have to justify or explain the past, then do you. I’m the wrong guy, man. I’m in a great place. A great mature place where all I do is spread positivity.”

Fans of Mr. Hart had lauded the choice to have the superstar comic host the Oscars subsequent yr. The annual ceremony has been scuffling with sinking scores, in addition to some political backlash. Critics stated that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences ignored black actors, writers and administrators in 2015 and 2016, setting off the #OscarsSoWhite outcry and efforts to make the academy extra inclusive.
