Japan Prepares for Possible Hit by Super Typhoon Hagibis

An excellent hurricane within the Pacific Ocean may hit Japan on Saturday, probably inflicting grave injury in Tokyo, consultants stated.

The heart of Super Typhoon Hagibis was roughly 950 miles south of Tokyo as of Thursday morning native time, in response to Brandon Bukunt, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam.

The storm was shifting about 9 miles per hour to the north, and anticipated to cross alongside the east coast of Japan on Saturday night, he stated. The quickest sustained winds of the storm, as estimated by satellites, had been 160 miles per hour, equal to a Category 5 hurricane; a storm with sustained winds of over 150 miles per hour is classed as an excellent hurricane.

The storm is anticipated to weaken, with winds at about 90 miles per hour, because it approaches Japan. Mr. Bukunt predicted heavy rain there beginning late Friday or early Saturday. The storm, he stated, is anticipated to bear “an extra-tropical transition” within the following days and change into a big storm within the Bering Sea.
